Firm History

In 1986, The Law Firm of John J. Fleming, Jr. took root, shaping its foundation in the picturesque landscapes of Montrose, CO. Founded by John Fleming, affectionately known as Jock, the firm embarked on a journey to provide a diverse range of legal services to the vibrant communities of Montrose, Delta, Telluride, and the surrounding areas.

Over the years, the firm has evolved, mirroring the changing needs of the community it serves. In 1995, the firm relocated to a new location, marking a pivotal moment when Jock continued his legal endeavors as a solo practitioner. The dedication to excellence and commitment to client service laid the groundwork for growth.

In 1999, the firm expanded its capabilities by welcoming an associate, further broadening its capacity to serve the community effectively. A significant milestone occurred in 2000 when Michael C. Stern joined the practice, leading to the rechristening of the firm as Fleming & Stern.

In 2003, a return to the firm's roots took place as it relocated back to its original location, solidifying its ties with the community. Despite inevitable changes, the commitment to providing top-notch legal services remained unwavering. Mr. Stern retired from the practice of law in 2008, leaving behind a legacy of legal expertise.

In 2007, Daniel J. Lowenberg started at the firm after passing the Colorado bar exam and working as an associate at a general civil practice law firm in Montrose between 2005 and 2007. Initially focusing on bankruptcy cases, the practice expanded to include civil litigation, business transactions, guardianship and probate disputes, and criminal defense, referred by other attorneys and clients in need of representation.

In October 2015, a pivotal moment unfolded as Daniel J. Lowenberg merged his office with John J. Fleming's firm, establishing the present-day Fleming & Lowenberg. Mr. Fleming, known as “Jock,” had been practicing in family law, real estate, construction disputes, local government law, probate and estates, and civil litigation of various types in the Montrose area since 1986 with Michael Stern, formerly the District Attorney for the Seventh Judicial District.

Since 2015, their office has successfully represented hundreds of people in divorce and post-dissolution cases, criminal defense, probate and estate administration and litigation, bankruptcy cases, and civil disputes of all kinds.
